Vaginal Candidiasis

Causes

This is a vagina infection caused by a fungus, Candida albicans, which lives in small numbers inside the vagina. The infection manifests when the vagina becomes acidic. This is linked to various factors: menstruation, pregnancy, diabetes, antibiotics, steroids, immune suppression, AIDS, thyroid disorders, vaginal allergies and higher dose birth control pills.

Symptoms

  1. Itching and burning in the vagina and the skin surrounds the vagina (vulva).
  2. A white or fain yellow curdy discharge from the vagina.
  3. Pain during sexual intercourse
  4. Swelling of the vulva

Infection is checked through non-invasive swab test by a doctor.

Symptoms

The infection can bring about a thin and milky discharge from the vagina with a ‘fishy’ odour. Apart from this, there are no discernible symptoms. The infection is normally discovered during routine gynaecological examinations.

Other symptoms include:

  1. Itching and soreness of vagina and vulva
  2. Burning sensation during urination
